Participation in a Reef Check Program includes: * Ecology course and slide presentation from marine scientists * Special “Fun-Dives” led by marine scientists * Participation in “Science-Dives” with data-collection and a de-briefing of the results * Certification for all participants
A minimum of 3 days should be planned for participation in the Reef Check program. Day 0 (evening): Introduction to the theory, presentation, and video. Day 1: An introductory dive or snorkel to identify the indicator species in the water. If that is successful, then the first Reef Check Survey dive can take place in the afternoon. Day 2, 3 and beyond: Mornings and/or afternoons will be Reef Check Survey dives with data-collection. Depending on you and the other RC participants, either one or two survey dives can be planned per day. In preparation, you can review the methods and the indicator species on our web-pages, or alternatively, our international web-pages www.reefcheck.org. The minimum number of Reef Check participants is 4. Reef Check may cancel projects if the minimum number of participants is not available, so please inform us about your participation as soon as possible. If you are interested in participating in Reef Check, then please register on this page or send us an E-mail so that we can keep you informed about the current projects and their dates. Travel and lodging are not organized by Reef Check. Please contact our Dive-base partner, your travel agent, or airline. |
